The European Central Bank's Governing Council has approved Boris Vujčić as the proposed candidate for ECB Vice President, raising no objections to his appointment. Vujčić, who currently serves as Governor of Hrvatska narodna banka, meets the required standard under Article 283(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which demands recognised standing and professional experience in monetary policy or banking matters. Following the Governing Council's approval, the European Parliament will also issue an opinion before the European Council makes the final appointment. Vujčić will begin his non-renewable eight-year term on June 1, 2026, succeeding Luis de Guindos, whose term as ECB Vice President ends on May 31, 2026.
