The U.S. Supreme Court's Friday ruling struck down President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). It has significantly boosted China's position ahead of Trump's scheduled Beijing visit from March 31 to April 2. Experts say the decision has weakened Trump's negotiating hand, with Wendy Cutler of the Asia Society Policy Institute stating he has "effectively had his wings clipped on his signature economic policy." Goldman Sachs estimates a net reduction of roughly 5% in U.S. tariffs on China, while Global Trade Alert recorded a 7.1% point tariff rate drop for Beijing. China's commerce ministry confirmed it is assessing the ruling's impact while urging removal of all unilateral tariffs. Analysts warn Beijing will now push harder for reduced U.S. support for Taiwan.
