The U.S. Supreme Court has dealt a significant blow to President Donald Trump's trade policy by invalidating a broad set of tariffs he imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). This 6-3 decision, which saw two Trump-appointed justices side with the majority, found that the President overstepped his authority, typically reserved for Congress, in levying these taxes. Trump, who had used tariffs as a primary negotiating tool, blasted the ruling as "disloyal." In response, Trump announced new temporary 15% tariffs on all imports, permitted for 150 days but requiring congressional approval for extension. Beijing, which had previously faced reciprocal and fentanyl-related tariffs, welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, emphasizing that "there are no winners in a trade war." China's Ministry of Commerce stated it would monitor new U.S. measures while safeguarding its interests.
