Euro Area GDP and Employment Both Grew 0.2% in Q4 2025

The Euro area and the EU both recorded 0.2% GDP growth in Q4 2025, according to Eurostat. For the full year, GDP grew 1.4% in the euro area and 1.5% in the EU, up from 0.9% and 1.1%, respectively, in 2024. Malta led Q4 growth at 2.1%, followed by Lithuania at 1.7%, while Ireland contracted sharply by 3.8% and Romania fell 1.9%. Employment also rose 0.2% in both the euro area and EU in Q4, with 221.1 million people employed across the EU, of which 172.6 million were in the euro area. For all of 2025, employment grew 0.7% in the euro area, down from 1.0% in 2024. Spain and Ireland led employment gains at 0.8% each, while Lithuania fell 2.3% and Estonia 1.8%.
