Euro Area Unemployment Rate Dips to 6.2% in December

The euro area's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.2% in December 2025, down from 6.3% in November 2025 and December 2024 as well, according to Eurostat. In the wider European Union, unemployment rate stayed unchanged at 5.9% in December 2025, matching November's rate and December 2024's figure. An estimated 13.043 million people were unemployed in the EU, including 10.792 million in the euro area. Youth unemployment also saw a decline, about 2.857 million young people were unemployed in the EU, with 2.257 million in the euro area. Youth joblessness fell to 14.7% in the EU and 14.3% in the euro area. The unemployment rate for women in the EU was 6%, while for men it was 5.8%. In the euro area, women's unemployment rate was 6.4%, and men's was 6.1%.
