Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling that President Trump's global tariffs were unlawful, finding that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act did not grant the president authority to impose them. The decision dismantled a cornerstone of Trump's economic agenda. On Monday, a federal appeals court rejected the Trump administration's request to delay implementation of that ruling by 90 days, clearing the way for the U.S. Court of International Trade to begin crafting refunds for small businesses that challenged the tariffs. The Trump administration had previously pledged to refund all collected duties with interest if the tariffs were struck down. Attorney Neal Katyal confirmed his team would "proceed immediately to get the refunds Americans are owed." Companies including FedEx, Revlon, and Costco have already filed suits seeking relief, though Justice Department lawyers warned the full refund process could take years.
