In January 2026, France consumer prices fell by 0.3% over the month and rose by 0.3% year-on-year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). This downturn in prices was mainly due to a seasonal fall in manufactured products, particularly clothing and footwear. The decline in inflation was driven by a slowdown in services prices to 1.7% after a 2.1% rise and a more pronounced decline in manufactured products -1.2% after falling -0.4% the previous month. Energy prices also decreased at a faster pace -7.6% after falling -6.8%, while food prices accelerated slightly 1.9% after rising 1.7%. Core inflation stood at 0.7% year-on-year, down from 1.1% in December.
