France's Inflation Jumps to 2.2% in April 2026
France's annual inflation rate rose to 2.2% in April 2026, up from 1.7% in March, driven sharply by a surge in energy prices, which climbed 14.2% year-on-year after 7.4% in March, according to a provisional estimate published by INSEE on April 30. Petroleum products were the primary force behind the energy spike. Service prices also accelerated slightly over the year, while food prices slowed to 1.3% from 1.8%, and manufactured products fell slightly faster at -0.6% compared to -0.5% in March. Tobacco prices held steady at 3.2%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.0% in April, the third consecutive monthly increase following 1.0% in March and 0.6% in February, driven by transport, accommodation services, and energy costs. France's harmonised consumer price index rose 2.5% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month. Final April results are due May 13, 2026.
