The Trump administration has until Thursday at 2 p.m. to tell the US Court of International Trade how it plans to refund tariffs struck down by the Supreme Court last month. The Supreme Court ruled that Trump's sweeping second-term tariffs imposed under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act exceeded the statute's authority, putting approximately $166 billion in collected tariffs at risk. More than 2,000 lawsuits have already been filed by companies seeking refunds, while over 330,000 importers could potentially claim repayment with interest. Customs and Border Protection requested 45 days to build a new system within its Automated Commercial Environment to process refunds, saying the update would save over 4 million workforce hours. CBP indicated refunds could begin by late April, though further appeals could delay payments.
