President Donald Trump on Monday insisted the criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell should continue, urging U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro to "take it to the end and see." Trump made the remarks in the Oval Office, shrugging off Republican Senator Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who has vowed to block any new Fed chair nominee until the probe concludes. Tillis sits on the Senate Banking Committee, and siding with all Democrats could stall Kevin Warsh's nomination to succeed Powell. Powell revealed on Jan. 11 that he is under criminal investigation after months of Trump criticizing his interest rate policies. The president also questioned the multibillion-dollar Fed HQ renovation as "gross incompetence or theft" but praised Pirro to uncover the truth. The Fed defends the project, citing long-term cost savings.
