President Donald Trump declared Friday that the U.S. war against Iran would end only with Iran's unconditional surrender. Trump posted on Truth Social that after a surrender and the selection of an acceptable new leader, Washington and its allies would rebuild Iran's economy. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed U.S. intelligence agencies are already reviewing potential future Iranian leaders. The declaration sent Brent crude oil surging past $90 per barrel. Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi warned the war "could bring down the economies of the world," cautioning that oil could reach $150 per barrel within weeks if tankers are blocked from the Strait of Hormuz, a level last seen when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
