Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on AI Chips

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday imposed a 25% tariff on selected AI chips, including Nvidia’s H200 and AMD’s MI325X, under a new national security order. The White House said the move aims to boost domestic chip production, noting the U.S. currently manufactures only about 10% of the semiconductors it uses. Trump says he will impose tariffs on Chinese semiconductor imports. The tariffs aimed at bolstering American manufacturing and introducing new import tariffs, including 100% duties on imports and 25% levies on heavy-duty trucks. An annex clarified that the 25% AI chip tariff would not be stacked on existing tariffs, with broader semiconductor tariffs possible in the future.
