U.S. importers are still paying Trump's illegal tariffs despite the Supreme Court's ruling against the "reciprocal" tariffs. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has not updated its Cargo System Management Service to remove the tariffs imposed by Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). An estimated 211,000 containers of goods, valued at $8.2 billion, arrived in U.S. ports between Friday and Sunday, and are still subject to IEEPA tariffs. Importers have a 10-day window to pay the tariffs, but Customs brokers and trade attorneys are unsure how CBP will handle entries for cargo released over the last 10 days. The U.S. Court of International Trade will decide on potential refunds, but the process may take weeks or even years due to the high volume of claims.
