U.S. Trade Deficit Narrows to $52.8 Billion in September

The U.S. trade deficit dropped to $52.8 billion in September, down $6.4 billion from August's revised figure of $59.3 billion. This decrease was led by a $7.1 billion reduction in the goods deficit, partially offset by a $0.6 billion decrease in the services surplus. Exports rose 3% to $289.3 billion, while imports increased 0.6% to $342.1 billion. The year-to-date trade deficit has increased 17.2% to $112.6 billion, from the same period in 2024. The average goods and services deficit decreased $2.1 billion to $63.1 billion for the three months ending in September. The real goods deficit in 2017 dollars decreased $4.7 billion to $79.0 billion in September.
