Depends on the currency pair you are trading. For eurusd, gbpusd, usdjpy, the best time is between 7am and 8am in the morning (South African time ) and you will get low spreads.

Trade 1-hour before the London session opens or you can trade the first 1-hour of the London session open, you are bound to get tighter spreads and higher liquidity during these times.

Personally I don't like trading in the afternoon because that is when they always release all sorts of news on TV and this news can affect the market equilibrium and cause spreads to become higher.

If you want low spreads I think you should look for a low spread broker, its not really about timing. In South Africa most of the brokers have high spread but there are still some with decent spreads. When researching a new broker always look out for their average spread per instrument (some brokers refuse to show the average spread) beccause thats what you will be getting most of the time.

London Session (Best for Low Spreads)

Time in South Africa (SAST):

🕒 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

London is the biggest forex center in the world, so spreads naturally drop once the session opens.

This is the best overall session for low spreads in pairs like:

EUR/USD

GBP/USD

USD/CHF

GBP/JPY

London provides the highest liquidity during this period.
