Reports of faster BoJ tightening lifted Sep–Oct hike odds, though the yen’s gains may fade. Building an internal consensus will take time, leaving Japan’s tightening pace behind the US. USD/JPY may trade around 163.0–163.5, with mixed moves across JPY crosses.

Markets are again pricing a Fed hike of more than 25bp in Sep, likely reflecting pre-FOMC anxiety. Political constraints ahead of the midterms and still-moderate macro data could limit further repricing after next week’s meeting.

Sep hike expectations may peak after the FOMC. Longer-term yields could remain elevated as recovery expectations improve and terminal-rate forecasts move higher. The curve remains highly sensitive to shifts in Fed guidance.
