Best Time to Trade USDJPY in Kenya

Guys, I always get confused about when to trade USD/JPY because these two countries are on the opposite side of the planet with a wide time difference. So, when is the best time to trade USDJPY for someone who is in Kenya? Answers will be appreciated.

Between the hours of 4 PM to 8 PM Kenyan time is the best time to trade the USDJPY pair in Kenya because during this window, the LON & NY sessions overlap, resulting higher liquidity, lower spreads & faster price movement.

Another best time to trade USDJPY from Kenya is during the Asian session from 1 AM to 11 AM Kenyan time.

Hi @maasai_Princess, the USD/JPY pair is most actively traded during the New York (NY) session. Personally, I prefer to trade it during the start of the NY session (first 2 hours of the NY session).

The time in your country Kenya, is 8 hours faster than that in NY and business activities in NY start around 8:00 AM and end around 5 PM so when converted to Kenya time the NY session will start from 4:00 PM till 1:00 AM.

But like I said earlier, I would rather trade USD/JPY during the first two hours of the NY session only which is between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM Kenyan time.

USD/JPY is best traded during the London (from 11 am in Kenya). The USD/JPY is a very liquid pair and lots of market makers hedge their risk using USD/JPY option orders traded on several exchanges.

The best time to trade USD/JPY in Kenya is when the market is most active and volatile β€” mainly during the Tokyo and New York sessions.

Tokyo Session (USD/JPY’s home market)

Time in Kenya:

πŸ•’ 2:00 AM – 11:00 AM (EAT)

(Because Japan is ahead of Kenya by 6 hours.)

This is when the Japanese markets open, and USD/JPY becomes naturally active.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 2. New York Session

Time in Kenya:

πŸ•’ 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (EAT)

USD/JPY gets very active when the U.S. markets open because USD is involved.

Trading the Tokyo session from Kenya is stressful because it is in the night, so if we are talking of best times it might not be the best. USD/JPY can be traded during London or New York depending on your strategy.

You need to have a strategy that works during your chosen time to trade, you cant just enter during New York without a strategy that suits that session.

For example many USD/JPY traders may not know that investors hedge alot of their USD and JPY exchange rate risk using USD/JPY option contracts (only second to EUR/USD). Because of this hedging with options, when the London session opens, UK banks/hedge funds tend to always trade towards the USD/JPY options thus pushing price towards the option expiries first. Now if you dont trade the London session and you decide to enter during New York, you would have missed out on most of the good action.

I attached yesterdays USD/JPY chart divided into sessions, you will see that London has some good action.
