I think it does, playing chess teaches traders the importance of strategy and risk management. I listened to world number 1 chess player Magnus Carlsen talk about he importance of memorizing past games and traders can learn from this. The market repeats patterns every now and then, if you are able to memorize patterns in the market it will help you a great deal to become profitable.

And this is why we must journal our trades so as to be able to go back and study them. The chess grand master in the video clearly has some superpower that enables him jornal trades in his mind. Whenever he sees a similar trade scenario, he just remembers the past trade and applies it. Thats why he is number 1

Well, playing chess can have a positive impact on you as a forex trader and thats because most of the requirement for being a good chess player is also needed to be a profitable forex trader. For instance, playing chess teaches the following which is also needed for a trader;

1. Strategic thinking

Chess teaches you to plan ahead, consider consequences, and think in terms of long-term advantages — all valuable in trading strategy development.

2. Patience and discipline

Good chess players don’t rush moves.

Good traders don’t rush trades.

Both require waiting for the right opportunity.

3. Pattern recognition

Chess players get better by recognizing board patterns.

Traders improve by spotting chart patterns, price behavior, and market structure.

4. Risk evaluation

Every chess move has pros and cons.

Every trade has risk and reward.

The thinking process is similar.

5. Emotional control

Chess teaches you not to tilt (get frustrated after mistakes), which is extremely important in trading psychology.

My humble opinion is that chess teaches you how to lose in order to win. You see chess players sacrifice a pawn or bishop or whatever just so they can target a bigger catch. the same thing applies to trading, sometimes you have to take a small loss in order to win big.
