FTMO Challenge – Day 1 Journal

I’ve started my $100,000 FTMO Classic Challenge.

Current account status:

Equity: $100,000

Profit target: $5,000

Maximum daily loss: $5,000

Maximum loss: $10,000

No trades have been taken yet, so the account is currently at 0% profit/loss.

My focus for this challenge is to protect the account first and let the setups come to me. I’ll be combining my technical analysis with the economic calendar and only taking trades when my setup and risk management align.

Day 1: Preparation > Patience > Execution. 📊

I will document my FTMO journey, including my setups, entries, invalidations, results and lessons learned

I like these challenges especially because they have an expiry time. They help you master prop firm risk management before you go for a real account

📊 FTMO Free Trial — Day 1 Summary

Date: 29 September 2026

Account: $100,000 Free Trial

Markets: XAUUSD (Gold) & GBPUSD

Today was my first trading day on the FTMO free trial.

I executed 32 trades across Gold and GBPUSD. It was not a clean trading session — I closed several positions at a loss while only a few trades managed to close in profit.

During the session, I also noticed what appeared to be spread widening that affected some of my executions, so I became more cautious and reduced my exposure rather than forcing additional trades.

Despite the difficult session, the account finished positive:

Starting Balance: $100,000.00

Ending Balance: $100,156.61

Daily P&L: +$156.61 (+0.16%)

Trading Statistics:

Trades: 32

Win Rate: 40.63%

Profit Factor: 1.32

Average R:R: 1.93

Average Win: $49.74

Average Loss: -$25.79

Total Lots: 15.62

🧠 Day's Lesson

The main takeaway today wasn't simply the $156 profit. It was the importance of execution quality and market conditions.

A profitable day doesn't necessarily mean every trade was good, and a low win rate doesn't automatically mean the strategy failed. What matters is controlling losses, maintaining reasonable risk-to-reward, and recognising when market conditions are affecting execution.

Day 1 complete: +$156.61.

Next session, the focus is on better selectivity, cleaner execution and protecting the account rather than forcing trades.
