GOLD | Rally Pauses as Markets Turn to U.S. Inflation and Jackson Hole
➡️ Gold eased after three consecutive sessions of gains as traders took a more cautious stance ahead of key U.S. inflation data and Federal Reserve signals.
➡️The immediate focus is on the July PCE inflation report, which could reshape expectations for the Fed's next policy decision.
➡️Recent softer consumer and producer inflation readings have reduced expectations for another near-term rate hike, providing underlying support for gold.
đźź As a non-yielding asset, gold generally benefits when interest-rate expectations and Treasury yields decline, while stronger inflation that revives expectations for tighter Fed policy could pressure bullion through higher yields and a firmer U.S. dollar.
đźź Attention will then shift to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks at the Jackson Hole Symposium on Friday.
đźź A less hawkish tone could weaken the dollar and support another leg higher in gold, while a firm stance on inflation and potential tightening could trigger a deeper correction.
⚠️ Geopolitics also remains an important driver. Iran has restarted discussions with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz amid increasing U.S. economic pressure. Any escalation or de-escalation affecting oil prices, inflation expectations and the dollar could create additional volatility in gold.
Fundamental: Bullish overall, but short-term volatility and corrective pressure remain possible ahead of PCE and Jackson Hole.
