is copy trading risky?
Yes, there's some element of risk in copy trading especially if you don't understand the trading strategy the person you are copying is using. When I started copy trading, i was always exiting the copy when i saw a large draw down because i didn't understand that the strategy provider was a swing trader.
I dont do copy trading through shady brokers, I ensure the broker is tier-1 regulated. Most of these unknown brokers who offer copy trading could intentionally overstate the winning stats of a strategy provider just to deceive you into copying them.
I read a thread somewhere where someone accused etoro of intentionally overstating a strategy providers win rate so as to lure more in more copiers. Of course, the end result is that you copy a strategy provider expecting good results and all you see is average to poor returns.

I agree with @joe, copy stats can be manipulated and when you ask the broker why its out of sync they just tell you its a bug or system error and they correct it to show the actual stats. I once saw an investor was up by 20% but in reality, he was down in a loss. The broker later updated the stats to reflect the loss. But imagine if i had copied that investor based on the false stats i saw.

@ozgal I wouldn't take recommendations from anyone here. You can check for yourself but copy trading is at your own risk. If the person you are copying sustains losses there's nothing you can do about it, no refunds!!! I always prefer to trade by myself and hold myself accountable.
