If you are traveling from to Japan and converting your money or trading in your phone and the USD/JPY price goes up from 150 to 155 … did the US dollar get stronger or weaker??

Well, In USD/JPY, USD is the base, JPY is the quote. The number tells you how many yen equal 1 dollar. Rising number = dollar strengthening, falling number = dollar weakening.

What's your reason.?

the US dollar has strengthened because one dollar can now buy more Japanese yen.

The US Dollar got stronger against the Japanese Yen. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ’΅πŸ“ˆ

USD/JPY = 150 β†’ $1 = Β₯150

USD/JPY = 155 β†’ $1 = Β₯155

So, $1 now buys more yen, meaning the USD strengthened and the JPY weakened.

Simple rule: When USD/JPY goes up, USD strengthens relative to JPY.

Nobody ever graduates from learning and beside when you learn from a site it's different from having someone with hands on experience teaching you what do you think??

If the US Federal reserve announces an unexpected rate cut tomorrow, what happens to the US Dollar??

Usually, an unexpected US Federal Reserve rate cut causes the US Dollar (USD) to weaken.

Why? Lower interest rates generally make US assets less attractive to investors because they offer lower returns, reducing demand for the dollar.

In forex terms:

USD weakens β†’ EUR/USD tends to rise

USD weakens β†’ GBP/USD tends to rise

USD weakens β†’ USD/JPY tends to fall

But: The actual reaction depends on how surprising the cut is and what the Fed says about future rates. If the cut was already expected, the dollar may not fall muchβ€”or could even rise.

And when USD goes lower what happens?

If USD/JPY goes lower, the US Dollar weakens against the Japanese Yen, while the Yen strengthens.

Example:

USD/JPY 155 β†’ 150

$1 could buy Β₯155, but now only buys Β₯150.

USD weaker πŸ“‰ | JPY stronger πŸ“ˆ

Simple rule:

USD/JPY ↑ = USD stronger

USD/JPY ↓ = USD weaker
