What is the Best Time To Trade Nasdaq in South Africa for Best Results?

I trade Nasdaq occasionally but I notice the candlesticks are always small which leads to slow price movement & less volatility. For someone residing in South Africa, when is the best time to trade Nasdaq when you can see bigger candlestick formation and faster price movement? I also want to know what economic data releases can affect the Nasdaq and cause more volatility.

NASDAQ is most active during the NY session.

The trading on US stocks open at 4:30 PM South African time, and most of the trading volume is during the first 2 hours from 4:30-6:30PM, so you will get most of the movement in NASDAQ index these trading hours.

Refer to the attached screenshot of the NASDAQ chart. On most days you will see movement in those 2 hours, it can be in one direction, or it can be volatile.

You can develop a strategy around price movements in these hour. For example, breakout of the first 10 minutes at the NY open, this strategy has some edge.

Nasdaq is actually a stock exchange located in New York and they open for business by 9:30 AM American time which equates to around 4:30 PM South African time (remember South Africa is 7 hours ahead of New York).

When Nasdaq opens for the day, there is usually a flurry of activities which causes higher volatility which lasts about 3 hours from opening.

The best time you can trade Nasdaq in South Africa is from 4:30 PM till 7:00PM South African time because early morning activities will be at their peak at the Nasdaq office in New York. You will tend to see better price movement and better candlestick formation.

Hope this helps

I thought it was implied that it means NAS100 or NASDAQ100 index in this context. And given how the question is about best time, I think it is about intraday trading.

One more thing I would add here is, do you really have to trade NAS100 @sizwe_twala? I'm asking this because based on your time zone, you would be trading in the evening. So, it may not be the best trading hours for lot of South African traders.

If you are a swing trader on NAS100, then it is a totally different thing. You could place your orders at any time during the day when the spreads are the lowest. Just watch out for higher rollover costs.

Nasdaq can be traded anytime but for faster price movement i usually trade it from 16:00 hours UTC which is an equivalent of 6 pm in South African time zone.

The best time to enter a nasdaq trade is when the Nasdaq stock exchange opens by 9 30 AM EST American time or 3 PM South African time.

Before the nasdaq exchange opens you may witness slow price movement but once it opens, there is usually a burst of activity which you can use to your advantage.

In the attached screenshot, you will see price surge upwards upon Nasdaq open
