14-Day FTMO Free Trial — Final Trading Summary
The 14-day FTMO Free Trial has officially ended. The account started at $100,000 and finished with a balance/equity of $91,936.39, giving a final net result of -$8,063.61 (-8.06%). The trial therefore finished Not Passed, but importantly, I did not breach either of the main drawdown rules during the challenge.
The account recorded 35 trades across 10 trading days, with a total volume of 176.34 lots. My final win rate was 34.29%, average winning trade was +$295.44, while my average losing trade was -$504.73. The final discipline score was 76% (Good).
The biggest issue becomes very obvious from those numbers: my losses were substantially larger than my wins. My average loss was about 1.71× my average profit. With a 34.29% win rate, that payoff structure made profitability mathematically very difficult. I either needed a much higher win rate or, more realistically for my style, significantly larger average winners relative to my losses.
There were still some encouraging periods. I had profitable days such as September 2 (+$300.58), September 9 (+$314.97) and September 11 (+$435.20). Toward the latter part of the trial, my execution also started improving. I became more selective with setups and began recovering from the deeper drawdown instead of continuing the same aggressive trajectory.
The early part of the challenge did most of the damage. For example, September 1 finished -$2,602.36, September 3 -$1,726.44, and September 4 -$619.47. These large losing days meant that later profitable days were simply too small to compensate. My maximum daily loss reached -$2,825.31 (-2.8%), which remained within the -$5,000 daily-loss limit.
At the account's worst point, the FTMO statistics recorded maximum loss at -$8,968.54 (-8.9%). That put me dangerously close to the -$10,000 maximum-loss limit—only about $1,031 away from breaching it. However, I managed to recover part of that drawdown and eventually finished at -$8,063.61, roughly $905 better than the account's maximum recorded drawdown.
One important detail about the final result is that the 14-day Free Trial expired overnight and FTMO automatically closed my remaining open positions. So the final $91,936.39 balance reflects those automatic closures rather than me manually deciding to close every remaining position at that point.
What I learned from this challenge
This trial exposed something more important than whether I passed or failed: my biggest weakness wasn't necessarily finding setups—it was managing the downside of my edge.
I can have good SMC/liquidity reads and still lose money if my losing trades are allowed to outweigh my winning trades. The statistics make that undeniable: 34.29% win rate + $295 average winner + $505 average loser isn't sustainable.
The next trial therefore shouldn't be about finding more trades. It should be about improving the economics of the trades I already take: cutting risk during losing streaks, avoiding unnecessary exposure, being more selective with setups, and allowing high-quality winners enough room to pay for multiple losses.
Most importantly, I shouldn't approach the next account thinking:
> “I need to recover the $8,063 I lost on this one.”
It's a completely new sample.
The goal should be to prove that my dynamic-risk approach can keep me alive long enough for my SMC/liquidity edge to express itself. If I can prevent a few -$1,500 to -$2,600 days from occurring, the entire equity curve could look dramatically different even without increasing my win rate.
Final result: $100,000 → $91,936.39 | -$8,063.61 (-8.06%) | 35 trades | 34.29% win rate | 76% discipline score | No daily/max-loss breach.
Not the result I wanted, but the data from these 14 days gives me something concrete to fix before the next challenge.
